Federal Data Systems CEO Appointed to Maryland CyberSecurity Steering Committee
Herndon, VA – November 15, 2010 –Federal Data Systems
(FDS) announces that CEO Jamie Benoit has been appointed to the steering
committee of Governor Martin O’Mally’s Workforce Investment Board (GWIB). FDS
provides information security, cyber security, information forensics, and
information assurance services to Federal customers.
The GWIB has convened a CyberSecurity Steering committee to
identify and address workforce development issues surrounding Maryland’s
CyberSecurity workforce. The steering committee’s mission will be to engage key
stakeholders in identifying critical workforce development issues and
challenges facing the Maryland CyberSecurity industry.
Benoit said, “Maryland is absolutely the right place for
Government and Industry to view as the nexus for cyber security talent and
information. The focus Governor O’Mally is
placing on developing existing capabilities through the steering committee will
further enhance those capabilities and contribute to a more secure national
operating theater.”
According to Governor O’Mally, “Maryland’s resources made us
a national leader in securing our country’s critical cyber
infrastructures. We have a robust higher
education system that trains the next generation of CyberSecurity experts,
institutions that are developing innovative cyber technologies and one of the
nation’s most technically advanced workforces.”
Federal CyberSecurity efforts have been focusing more and
more in Maryland. U.S. Cyber Command was
created by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates on June 23, 2009 as a
sub-component of U.S. Strategic Command.
Cyber Command has since been located at Ft. Meade, in Anne Arundel
County, Maryland, where it joined the National Security Agency. The National Institutes of Standards and
Technology (NIST) and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) are other
Cyber Security-affiliated agencies located in Maryland.
